Challenge #100DaysOfCode

#100DaysOfCode

This challenge is the first and best known challenge in the #100DaysOf… series. It is created by Alexander Kallaway from ‘Do The Opposite‘ around 4 years ago. And it is the most popular challenge. It even has it’s own retweet bot and several social media groups among different platforms. Because of the success of this challenge, the #100DaysOfX was created 2,5 years ago.

My #100DaysOfCode challenge

The hashtag #100daysOfCode is a challenge to write code for at least an hour for 100 days. That is more than three months code, code, code and code. I chose this challenge to do during summer to gain more experience and build a portfolio that reflects different parts and a wide range of my programming skills.

Because that’s what the future job will ask: “What and where is your portfolio?”.

The goal of this challenge for me is to write code for at least one hour every day. And every five days I write a blog post about the progress and the related topic(s) divided into bite sized blog posts.

In The Netherlands is everything you create for your study, a coding assignment for example, copyrighted by your institution. So like we use to say: Never create or ‘sell’ your best product(s) to your study.

How does it work?

It is preferable that you have a platform where you can share your progress. The official #100DaysofCode has created a Twitter bot that retweets all tweets containing its hashtag. So having a Twitter account and sharing daily your progress in the challenge is the easiest way. More info can be found at the official website: 100daysofcode.com

If you would like, you can follow my twitter @sophiestech to see my updates about the code challenge. And besides Twitter I chose to also share my experience a bit more elaborated in bite sized blog posts.

Every five days I will compose a blog post that consists of five days of progress of the challenge in tweets and elaborate on that. In the future I will also publish some YouTube videos on my coding experience.

You can join too!

Just retweet the tweet below and let me know when you joined this challenge too!

Besides Twitter and this blog, there is also my other blog ‘Sophie’s Blog‘ where I will write about the #100DaysOfReading challenge. And share the reviews of the books and sources I have read for the #100DaysOfCode and the #100DaysOfSoftwareEngineering challenge.

Three Challenges

To summarise it all: Yes I am attending three challenges at the same time, for the same duration, with the same sharing goal: Gaining knowledge to practice, to build a portfolio to show and to write to explain what’s been built and learnt.
